So... if you had to make a list of the top 10 things that children want from their parents, what would you put on the list???
- A bigger allowance
- New Gameboy
- Cell phone
- New Clothes
- A car
- More Freedom
Well, if so then that list would be way off track! It turns out that what children want most from their parents has very little to do with money. Even though I research about children day and night, I was in awe when I read these 10 things! It reminded me how remarkable children really are, how thoughtful and caring and genuine they can be - and best of all, it made me realize that being a great parent is way easier than I thought!
Here is a list I found of the top 10 things students around the world said they desire most from their mothers:
- Come into my bedroom at night, tuck me in and sing me a song. Also tell me stories about when you were little.
- Give me hugs and kisses and sit and talk with me privately.
- Spend quality time just with me, not with my brothers and sisters around.
- Give me nutritious food so I can grow up healthy.
- At dinner talk about what we could do together on the weekend.
- At night talk to me about anything: love, school, family etc.
- Let me play outside a lot.
- Cuddle under a blanket and watch our favorite TV show together.
- Discipline me. It makes me feel like you care.
- Leave special messages in my desk or lunch bag.
Now what would you add to this list? More importantly, what do your children say?
I asked Maddy and Sydney what they desire most from me, and these were their answers:
LOL! Of course, these answers did come after spending day and night with each other on Holiday for 3 straight weeks! But nonetheless, I can see a pattern here - it seems that more than anything else in the world, children just want alone time with their parents. Special time just for them - where they can have their Mom or Dad's full attention, love and adoration.
Thanks for reading! I hope this list gave you some food for thought - please do let me know if your children come up with any additional items for the list!
Happy Wednesday!

This is such an important article. Thank you. I too, spend day and night researching schools, kids, brains, parents and society and know these things are so true. There are three things that motivate and filter all human (and animal) behavior: Am I relevant, Am I significant, Am I lovable...if we could all just do that for one another--what a different world we would have...I think you should come on board with us. http://www.starshineacademy.org http://www.sqi.us.com We can all do great things together.
