Many people are talking about the 2012 phenomenon. Even my daughter Maddy has gotten wind of it because she heard some older kids talking about the movie and how the world is going to end in 2012 and as many of you may know 2012 is the year the Mayan calendar signifies as the “end.” Some people look at it like a time of Spiritual Transformation, as new Light is being born unto the Planet. Then there is the movie 2012 which had Maddy all in a tizzy and uses fear based ideas of the end of time. So, what do we do with all of the contradictions? How do we explain it to our children?
Well, I asked Christie and she has some great ideas on how to talk to children about our planet, our lives, our choices, and yes, 2012...
I look at 2012 the same way I looked at everything. I look at my life and the Planet from the viewpoint of “We have a Vote”. Because I am psychic, I sometimes receive visions of things that may happen on the planet, like earthquakes and world events.

So, this is a touchy subject because some readers believe it is our job as parents to "teach" our children, others simply to guide them and let them learn and explore and create for themselves... Either way, my posts this week are dedicated to the subjects that we often forget to talk about.
Here are my top 5, that I always have to make a constant effort to remember:
1. How Energy Works.
I actively manage my energy, do things like meditation and Qi Gong to maintain it at a high level, choose the thoughts I think and make sure I don't get stuck in a rut for too long. This week's post from Rhonda Ryder does a great job at covering some these areas and showing us how we too can make sure we teach or set an example in this area of life for our kids. Hi there everyone! Much, much, much love to you in the New Year! 2010 is our Living Awakening year, and I am ready.
Now here comes a very personal note from me to you...
Do you remember the first dollar you made from your own creative and entrepreneurial efforts? Not the money you made bussing tables in high school, or working for someone else.Do you remember the first time you took a risk to put out your own creativity and to put yourself out into the marketplace, not knowing what would come? I will be the first to admit my infatuation with Will Smith. Brad Pitt - take him or leave him... Leonardo DeCaprio - never understood. But ahhhh, Will
Jada is a lucky woman!
So, this week 2 things happened - first, my scheduled interview had to reschedule - so I was left without a "GiftED Exclusive Interview"
But then, one of the people I love most shared this video with me, I knew I had to share it with all of you! It is not an exclusive and at 9 minutes is a little long - but it is so worth watching.
Here are some of my favorite quotes from this video and things we can instill in our children:

From a network communication system first developed in the 1950's to aid space research and exploration, the internet today has grown into an everyday form of communication, interaction and social tool for billions of users worldwide. The children of this generation are now growing up in a virtual world that did not exist for us when we were their age, and so parents today are faced with an uncharted territory of dangers.
Especially with the recent explosion of social networks with the likes of Facebook, MySpace and YouTube over the past decade, kids nowadays can live a double virtual life that may seem harmless at first, but without proper guidance, can lead to uncontrollable consequences. So we as parents must be vigilant and not forget to teach our kids how to conduct themselves online, just as much as we are teaching our kids how to conduct their manners and behavior in life.

This week's guest contributor is Rhonda Ryder

Rhonda Ryder is the founder of KidsAwakening, an organization dedicated to teaching parents how to share the Law of Attraction with their kids and teens. She lives in Longwood, Florida with her husband and two children and has studied Metaphysics for over 25 years.
One of the best ways to share the Law of Attraction with your children and teenagers is to model how this law works in your own life. In fact, modeling the benefits of the Law of Attraction is far more effective than trying to teach your children these concepts with words.
Sure, we learn from the words in books and movies... but if you really want your children to understand that they are creators of their own realities, living this truth yourself is the best thing you can do.
How Can You Model the Law of Attraction Thinking to Your Children?
When something you’ve been trying to create manifests in your life, let your children know. If they’re not interested, that’s okay. This isn’t about preaching or pushing this way of thinking on anyone, including your kids.
However, you could make a habit of allowing them to overhear you telling a friend about your experiences with the Law of Attraction. Or you could invite someone over to watch an enlightening movie with you. If your child is interested, they might join you. The most important thing is to let your kids see you as being joyful. Do your best to constantly raise your vibration.
What If You’re Stuck at A Low Vibration?
So what should you do if you’re going through a hard time? Should you hide your feelings from your children in fear that you might be setting a bad example? Read the full article »

Hey everyone! This post is satisfying 2 of my New Year's Resolutions!
- One of my New Year's Resolutions is to conduct and Project GiftED Exclusive Interview every week! My very first one of the year is with Todd Herman, a mental coach to Professional and Olympic Athletes. He also works with youth teams throughout the US and Canada and in this video he talks to us about the 2 Most Important Questions every parent should be asking their child before they fall asleep at night.
- Another Resolution is to learn how to use iMovie
So, it is far from perfect, but this is my very 1st production that I created from scratch (and it only took me 15 hours!! LOL - not joking!). Let me know what you think of my video and look for another one next week.

This holiday season has been jammed packed with travel and celebration and by the time I arrived in Dubai I was just worn out. I had been sitting in the airport on a 5 hour layover with my girls at 1 am local time and my patience was right about zero.
As I was talking to a friend on Skype I said something half jokingly about how I was glad to be talking on the phone because otherwise I might blow a gasket and explode at the girls. And the response was, "Ahhh, are you restraining yourself from yelling at them because I am watching?" And the truth was no, I wasn't...
I am not the perfect parent, but I when it comes to yelling at or getting frustrated with my girls, I always ask myself one question first before I let my temper get the better of me. And it is not some big, enlightening question - so don't get too excited! I simply say:

2010 Resolutions
After the fireworks have died down and the Christmas tree is packed up, we face a brand new year with optimism and resolve to make it better and happier than any other year of our life.
It doesn't matter how big or how small our resolutions are, or even if we're "recycling" the resolutions we had on our list last year
the fact of the matter remains that the new year marks a time for reflection and change to be a better you!
And while we may have a lot of resolutions on the list for ourselves, what about having one resolution for ourselves as parents? I came across this article, "10 Real-Mommy Resolutions" and got inspired!
Here's just some of my favorite "real-mommy" resolutions that were shared:

Hey Everyone! Because all my friends and family read the GiftED blog and know about my obsession with reading, the easiest gift for them to give me is BOOKS! Lots and lots of books on every parenting subject you can imagine!!! And one of the ones I received most recently is called "The Power of Your Child's Imagination." I think the book is awesome - and that means a lot coming from me as I have read so many that they all start to run together.... Anyway, I contacted the author and she agreed to let me post some of her articles here on the blog
The one that interested me most, and I felt I had to share is this article on Healing Tools for children. I am big believer in the power of positive thought and how we can use our visualization skills (my kids say "Mom - that is just a fancy way of saying use your imagination!") to change our body, situation and environment. So, naturally this was the article I wanted to immediately publish for you all. Let me know what you all think, and there is a link to her book at the end of the post if you are interested in reading more.
8 Powerful Healing Tools by Charlotte Reznick, Ph.D
Eric had headaches so "hot" and painful, he described them as cannonballs pounding on his head - until he learned to visualize breathing in an ice blue color to cool down his hot headache. Missy could barely get herself to sit at her desk and homework took hours - until she imagined Albert Einstein as her guide helping her focus on her studies. And little Sara was feeling totally left out by her friends - until her imaginary wizard gave her "gifts" of a star and a heart crystal to help her feel better and love herself "no matter what." These are just a few of my patients who are not only coping with our stressful times, but are now thriving through using the power of their imaginations.
